Huskers Advance to NCAA Finals

Champaign, Illinois - The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team advanced to the NCAA finals for the third year in a row after a third-place finish (405.723) at the NCAA Qualifiers this afternoon. Nebraska finished behind Michigan (408. 389) and Stanford (407.588) in the first of two qualifying sessions. Minnesota (396.059), Navy (393.123) and California (390.849) also competed in the session, but will not advance to the team finals. Session two is set for tonight at 7 p.m. and will feature Oklahoma, Illinois, Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State and Army. The top three in that session will also advance to the team finals, which will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 6 p.m.

Rotation 1 - Floor

  • Anton Stephenson paved the way for NU, notching a 14.400.
  • Despite recent injuries, Jake Bonnay scored a 14.033, only 0.267 away from his season high.
  • Zach Peters and Griffin Kehler weren’t too far behind, scoring 13.966 and 13.900 respectively.
  • Charlie Giles rounded out the final team score of 69.732, posting a 13.433.

Rotation 2 - Pommel Horse

  • Charlie Giles and Khalil Jackson led the way for the Huskers, posting 13.30 and 13.266 respectively.
  • Josh Martin followed closely, posting a 12.700.
  • Mitch Tyndall and Evan Kriley rounded out the final team score of 63.565, scoring 12.466 and 11.833 respectively.
  • Anton Stephenson added a score of 11.700 to his all-around score.

Rotation 3 - Still Rings

  • Jordan King paved the way for NU, notching a 13.800.
  • Mitch Tyndall and Joshua Everitt weren’t too far behind, both scoring a 13.566.
  • Evan Hymanson and Anton Stephenson rounded out the final team score of 67.265, posting 13.533 and 12.80 respectively.

Rotation 4 - Vault

  • Anton Stephenson led the way for the Huskers, posting a 14.966.
  • Charlie Giles and Zach Peters weren’t too far behind, both notching a 14.600.
  • Jake Bonnay and Jonathan Scripnick rounded out the final team score of 72.365, scoring 14.133 and 14.066 respectively.

Rotation 5 - Parallel Bars

  • Evan Hymanson paved the way for NU, posting a 13.533.
  • Dillan King followed closely, notching a 13.433.
  • Griffin Kehler added a 13.100 to the final team score.
  • Anton Stephenson and Andrew Zymball rounded out the final team score of 65.265, scoring 13.066 and 12.133 respectively.

Rotation 6 - High Bar

  • Dillan King led the way for the Huskers, scoring a 13.633.
  • Evan Hymanson and Jake Bonnay followed closely, scoring 13.566 and 13.466 respectively.
  • Khalil Jackson and Griffin Kehler rounded out the final team score of 67.531, both scoring a 13.433.
