Five Huskers Named All-Americans, Team Finishes Third

Champaign, Illinois – Anton Stephenson, Jake Bonnay, Josh Martin, Khalil Jackson and Charlie Giles claimed All-America awards on Saturday night at 2019 NCAA Championships, solidifying their best team finish since 1999.

Jake Bonnay placed eighth on floor (14.40) while Josh Martin placed eighth on pommel horse (13.60). Anton Stephenson placed third on vault (14.866) and placed seventh in the all-around (81.631) earning All-America awards on both. Charlie Giles claimed eighth on vault (14.60) and Khalil Jackson claimed seventh on high bar (13.833).

As a team, Nebraska finished in third place with 407.489. Stanford earned first place (415.222). Oklahoma placed second (414.556), Michigan placed fourth (406.354), Illinois placed fifth (405.358) and Penn State placed sixth (399.725).

In the individual competition, Stanford’s Brody Malone claimed the floor (14.800), high bar (14.633) and all-around titles (85.832). Ohio State’s Alec Yoder claimed the pommel horse title (14.633). Alex Diab from Illinois claimed the still rings title (14.733). Michigan’s Anthony McCallum claimed the vault title (15.266). Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus claimed the parallel bars title (14.20).

Rotation 1 - Still Rings

  • Anton Stephenson started off strong for the Huskers, leading the team with a season high score of 14.033.
  • Jordan King and Mitch Tyndall weren’t too far behind, posting 13.70 and 13.566 respectively.
  • Evan Hymanson and Joshua Everitt rounded out the final team score of 68.031, both scoring 13.366.
  • As a team, the Huskers topped their season high on the event.

Rotation 2 - Vault

  • In typical fashion, Anton Stephenson led the Huskers with a 14.866.
  • Charlie Giles and Zach Peters weren’t too far behind, scoring 14.60 and 14.566.
  • Jake Bonnay posted a 14.20, only 0.2 off his season high.
  • Jonathan Scripnick rounded out the final team score of 72.065, notching a 13.833.

Rotation 3 - Parallel Bars

  • Freshman Dillan King paved the way for NU, posting a 13.533.
  • Griffin Kehler and Anton Stephenson followed closely, scoring 13.366 and 13.30 respectively.
  • Andrew Zymball and Evan Hymanson rounded out the final team score of 65.398, scoring 13.166 and 12.133 respectively.

Rotation 4 - High Bar

  • Khalil Jackson led the way for the Huskers, posting a 13.833.
  • Griffin Kehler and Dillan King followed closely, scoring 13.40 and 13.133 respectively.
  • Evan Hymanson and Jake Bonnay rounded out the final team score of 65.199, scoring 12.733 and 12.10 respectively.
  • Anton Stephenson added a 12.966 to his all-around score.

Rotation 5 - Floor

  • Jake Bonnay and Zach Peters paved the way for NU, posting 14.40 and 14.366 respectively.
  • Jake Bonnay topped his season high and Zach Peters beat his career high.
  • Griffin Kehler followed closely, posting a 14.333.
  • Anton Stephenson and Charlie Giles rounded out the final team score of 70.065, scoring 13.60 and 13.366 respectively.
  • As a team, the Huskers topped their season high on the event.

Rotation 6 - Pommel Horse

  • Josh Martin and Khalil Jackson led the way for the Huskers, scoring 13.60 and 13.533 respectively.
  • Charlie Giles wasn’t too far behind, scoring a career high 13.366.
  • Evan Kriley and Mitch Tyndall rounded out the final team score of 66.731, scoring 13.166 and 13.066.
  • Anton Stephenson added a 12.866 to his all-around score.

This concludes the 2019 season for the Huskers. Nebraska will return four All-Americans next season: Jake Bonnay, Josh Martin, Charlie Giles and Khalil Jackson.
