Huskers Dominate Spartans, 6-1

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln, Neb. -- Toby Boyer tied for sixth all-time on Nebraska's singles wins list with his 76th career victory, as Boyer, Micah Klousia and Jon Meyer were honored on Senior Day before the Nebraska men's tennis team (10-16, 2-9 Big Ten) topped the Michigan State Spartans (6-20, 0-11 Big Ten), 6-1, to close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Dillon Tennis Center.

Nebraska's two Big Ten wins mark the team's best conference regular season record since 2016 when the Huskers went 4-7 in B1G play.

NU will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., this week to compete at the Big Ten Tournament, April 25-28, hosted by the University of Michigan. Nebraska earned the 11th seed and is set to clash with the 6th-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes (16-9, 6-5 Big Ten) on Thursday, April 25 at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET).

Boyer and freshman William Gleason started off doubles play against the Spartans with a 6-3 win over John Carlin/Jack Winkler at No. 1. Klousia and freshman Victor Moreno Lozano defeated Billy Shisler/Ivan Rakic at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, to give Nebraska the doubles point.

Sophomore Isaac Nortey quickly knocked off Carson Gates at No. 5 to start off singles competition, 6-2, 6-1. Gleason then bested John Carlin, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position for his 12th season win, including a team-best 6-4 Big Ten mark.

Klousia earned his eighth spring season victory and 11th win overall -- marking his personal-best win total in three seasons with the Huskers -- with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Ivan Rakic at the No. 2 spot to clinch the match for the Huskers.

Boyer's historic win was also his 15th of the spring season and fifth against nationally-ranked opponents, as he overcame No. 105 Jack Winkler, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Boyer tied with Chris Aumueller, who also posted 76 career wins from 2009-12.

Junior Chris Dean led 6-4, 4-3 over Colin Harvey at the No. 5 position, but retired the match with an injury.

Victor Moreno closed out the 6-1 Husker win with a come-from-behind victory over Anthony Pero at the No. 4 spot, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
