Nebraska Adds Four Qualifiers at West Regional
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Nebraska track and field team added four more qualifiers for the NCAA Championships on day two of the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Hornet Stadium on Friday. The Huskers have now secured eight bids to the NCAA Championships with one day remaining at the regional.
Jasmine Barge and Michaela Peskova both punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles. Barge ran the ninth-fastest time at the regional and threw down a PR of 57.38, good for No. 4 on the NU top-10 list. Peskova also qualified for the NCAA Championships, tying for 10th with a personal-best time of 57.46 and she is now No. 5 on the NU top-10 list. It will be Barge's second time competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while it will be Peskova's first time running at the National Championships.
Carlos and Khalil Davis both qualified for the NCAA Championships in the discus. Carlos Davis finished fourth with a PR throw of 191-11 (58.50m), good for No. 9 on the NU top-10 list. Khalil Davis also advanced to the National Championships and finished 10th with a toss of 181-11 (55.45m). This will be the fourth-consecutive season Carlos Davis has qualified for the NCAA Championships and the first appearance of Khalil Davis at the event.
A group of Huskers also competed in preliminary races on Friday, attempting to qualify for quarterfinals to be run on Saturday. Chanel Freeman automatically advanced to the 100-meter hurdle quarterfinal, finishing second in her heat with a PR time of 13.11w. Freeman's time was good for No. 5 all-time on the NU top-10 list. Luke Siedhoff automatically advanced to Saturday's 110-meter hurdle quarterfinal, finishing second in his heat with a time of 13.88.
Judi Jones concluded the day for Nebraska with a gutsy performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Jones finished with a PR time of 10:10.33 and is now No. 4 all-time in the event.
The final day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Round commences on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. with field events, while action on the track begins at 8 p.m. All times listed are Central Time.
