Three Huskers Earn Second-Team All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas - The Nebraska track and field team had three student-athletes earn second-team All-America honors on the opening day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Wednesday. The men began competition on day one, while the women will begin action on Thursday.

The Huskers opened up the day with a pair of 15th-place finishes on the track, good for second-team All-America honors. Kusche was the first student-athlete to earn second-team accolades, placing 15th with a time of 3:46.87 in the 1,500 meters. It was Kusche's first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Luke Siedhoff placed 15th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.86, also good for second-team All-America accolades. Siedhoff's time was .13 seconds faster than his finish at the 2018 NCAA Championships and it was his second time competing at the event.

Burger Lambrechts Jr. was the only Husker field student-athlete to compete on Wednesday and became a second-team All-American in his first appearance at the NCAA Championships. Lambrechts Jr. was 14th with a toss of 62-0 1/2 (18.91m).

Action at the NCAA Championships continues on Thursday, with 11 Huskers competing. The 4x100-meter relay team of Whitney Bridges, Lakayla Harris, Deja Ingram and Quashira McIntosh will run in the semifinals at 7:02 p.m. Chanel Freeman will compete in the semifinals of the 100-meter hurdles at 8:02 p.m. and Jasmine Barge and Michaela Peskova will race in the 400-meter hurdle semifinals at 9 p.m. Chase Wolinski, Brittni Wolczyk and Sydney Otto will all be in the finals of the javelin at 8:15 p.m. and Shylia Riley will leap in the long jump finals at 8:30 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on WatchESPN.
