Huskers Face Wichita State at Home
Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska mens tennis team (5-3) is now ranked at No. 59 in the ITA division 1 mens rankings, after winning their fourth straight match last Saturday in Bristol, Tenn. Next the Huskers are set to face Wichita State (6-2) at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25 at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
The Huskers are coming off a very successful weekend in Bristol, Tenn. where they downed two ranked teams. The Nebraska men's tennis team upset No. 60 Georgia State in its first match of the day, winning 4-3. They kept their momentum, winning the second match of the day against No. 74 ETSU. 4-2.
In singles play against the Panthers Nebraska posted four singles victories to secure the win. The Huskers doubles teams gave up two of three matches to forfeit the doubles point. The lone doubles victory belonged to Bradford Zitsch and Dusty Boyer over GSU's Andrew Zedde and Sofiane Chevallier 8-1. Tom Blackwell did not tarnish his perfect record, gaining his 7th win of the spring season.
The Huskers improved to 5-3 on the spring with their third consecutive win over an ITA Top 75 opponent with the win at ETSU 4-2. The doubles teams secured the doubles point with wins at the No.1 and No. 2 spots. Next the Huskers collected three singles victories. Dusty Boyer and Marc Herrmann each gained their second singles wins of the day. Against ETSU, Boyer rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over ETSU's Jorge Varon. Herrmann knocked off ETSU's Rogerio Ribeiro 6-4, 6-4. Eric Sock fell to the Bucs' Juan Ramirez 6-4, 6-3, before ETSU's Jesus Bandres added a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over NU's Andre Stenger. Tom Blackwell secured the win for the Huskers by improving to 8-0 on the season with his 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over ETSU's Roger Ordeig in the No. 5 spot.
Nebraska Back In the National Rankings
Nebraska began the spring season at No. 74 in the ITA Divison I Men's Tennis Rankings. After falling at No. 36 Louisville, the Huskers slipped out of the top 75. After upsetting 3 ranked teams the Huskers are back in the rankings at No. 59.
