Bio

Senior (2008-09)

Melo ended his four-year career at Nebraska with a 9-5 singles record as a senior while playing at the No. 6 spot for the majority of the season.  Melo enjoyed most of his success at the beginning of the year as he won five of his first six matches in straight sets.  In Big 12 play, Melo posted a 1-3 mark with his lone victory coming over Austin Klores (Texas A&M) on April 10.  Melo ended his career with a 39-40 singles record and a 6-18 doubles mark.  Melo was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team for the third consecutive season.

 

Junior (2007-08)

Melo had a productive junior campaign, compiling an overall record of 12-12 in the spring season.  Competing in mainly the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots, Renato tied for the team high in Big 12 victories with two. Melo did most of his damage in the No. 5 spot where he posted a record of 8-9.  In doubles play, Melo teamed up with several players to combine for a record of 1-10.

 

Sophomore (2006-07)

Melo posted a solid 9-8 singles record in 2007, playing primarily at the No. 5 position.  He had the most Big 12 wins on the team, going 3-3 in conference play. Melo also earned academic All-Big 12 accolades and was a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll after posting a 4.0 GPA in both semesters.

 

Freshman (2005-06)

Melo arrived at Nebraska in time for the spring season of 2006, and he compiled a 7-10 singles record, primarily at the No. 6 spot.

 

High School

Prior to Nebraska, Melo competed for Colegio Pitagoras and was ranked No. 3 in Brazil singles competition.

 

Personal

Renato was born on Dec. 23, 1987, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and is the son of Fabio and Fatima Melo. He has one brother, Leandro (28), and is majoring in finance.
