Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Licensing and Concessions Michael Stephens leads marketing department operations with a full-time staff of seven. The department is responsible for ticket marketing, game-day promotions, concessions, the Spirit Squad and the Huskers Authentic Team Store.
Stephens, who was named an assistant athletic director in 2009, also works daily with Husker IMG Sports Marketing as the athletic department's primary liaison to its media rights partner. In addition, he runs the licensing program and works closely with the Huskers.com staff to integrate marketing into the athletic department website.
Stephens joined the Husker staff as director of licensing in 2002. He added the titles of director of concessions in 2005 and director of corporate marketing in 2007. Before joining the Nebraska staff, he spent two years as manager of corporate sponsorship sales with the Kansas City Royals. Prior to joining the big club in Kansas City, Stephens spent eight years with the Omaha Royals.
A native of Omaha, Neb., Stephens earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in 1991 and a master's degree from Western Illinois in 1994. Stephens and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Trevor and Andrew.
