Norman, Okla. -
Husker senior golfer Scott Willman shot a 5-over-par 77 on Friday at the Jimmie
Austin OU Golf Club and is tied for 43rd with 18 holes to play at
the NCAA Norman Regional.
In Thursday's opening round, Willman posted a 3-over-par 75,
but Friday proved to be a tougher day of scoring for the field. The senior
started his second round on Hole No. 10, a 319-yard par 4, and made birdie to
get his round going in the right direction. However, he bogeyed the next hole
as well as the par-5 13th. After making par on No. 14, Willman made
three consecutive bogeys on Nos. 15-17 before a par on the 18th to
finish the back nine at 4-over-par 40.
On the front nine, Willman bogeyed three of the first four
holes, putting him at 7-over-par for the round. He responded on No. 5, a
616-yard par 5, with a birdie before parring Nos. 6-8. Willman finished the
round on a high note for the second straight day, birdieing the ninth hole, a
420-yard par 4.
Willman, a Prairie Village, Kan., native, is in fourth place
among the individuals competing at the NCAA Norman Regional. Arkansas-Little
Rock's Alfred Kerstis (T-23rd) and UTEP's Martin Simonsen (T-23rd)
are tied for the individual lead at 3-over-par 147. Nevada's Kevin Lucas is
tied for 36th at 150 strokes, while Willman is tied for 43rd
at 152. Stephen F. Austin's Mitchell McLeroy is tied for 50th at
153.
