Urbana, Ill. - The Nebraska women's tennis team (8-14, 0-9 Big Ten) remain winless in Big Ten play after falling 4-2 to Illinois (11-9, 4-5 Big Ten) on the road on Sunday. The two teams tried a new format, playing singles first to determine if a winner would be decided there, leaving doubles to be played only if the singles matches were split.

In singles, Illinois' Melissa Kopinski scorched Nebraska's Mary Hanna 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 position while fellow Fighting Illini Allison Falkin dominated the Huskers' Maggy Lehmicke 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 5 court, UI's Misia Kedzierski defeated NU's Lisa Andersson 6-1, 6-3 to push the team score to 3-0 in favor of the Orange and Blue.

Nebraska brought two points back when Maike Zeppernick outpaced Illinois' Louise Kwong 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 court while fellow Husker Izabella Zgierska outlasted the Fighting Illini's Alexis Casati 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. The match was decided at the No. 6 position when UI's Jerricka Boone earned a three-set victory over NU's Hannah Sulz 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Next up for the Huskers is two home matches to close out the regular season. Nebraska welcomes Penn State on Friday, April 18 at 3 p.m. before hosting Ohio State on Sunday, April 20 at 11 a.m. Both matches are schedule to be played at the NU Vine Street Courts, weather permitting, but will be relocated indoors to the Nebraska Tennis Center in the case of inclement weather.
