Lincoln - Senior right-hander Ashley Hagemann fired a one-hit shutout and the Husker offense pounded out 11 hits, as Nebraska opened its home schedule with a 7-0 victory over South Dakota in the first of two games Tuesday at Bowlin Stadium.

Hagemann struck out 10 and allowed only one runner to reach second base. She improved to 9-10 with the win. Her efforts led Nebraska to its seventh consecutive win in a home opener, as the Huskers improved to 14-12 on the season.

Offensively, junior Gabby Banda went 3-for-4, producing her second three-hit game in a row. Senior Nikki Haget and freshman Mattie Fowler added two hits apiece, while sophomore Taylor Edwards homered and drove in three and senior Ashley Guile produced two RBIs.

Erica Denney (1-9) took the loss for South Dakota, which saw its two-game win streak snapped and fell to 4-19 on the year. Denney allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in 3.0 innings. Lincoln native Paige Policky pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.

The Huskers struck first with a two-out run in the bottom of the first. Banda reached on a one-out single, advanced to second on an illegal pitch and scored on a two-out, RBI double from Guile.

Nebraska added to its lead in the third. Senior Nikki Haget led off with an infield single and stole second. Banda followed with a single up the middle and Taylor Edwards hit a towering three-run homer that the wind carried just over the left-field fence to give Nebraska a 4-0 lead. Guile was then hit by a pitch and sophomore Tatum Edwards walked to set the stage for an RBI single from junior Brooke Thomason. Classmate Courtney Breault capped the five-run inning with a sacrifice fly to left.

The Huskers added one more run in the fourth. Haget reached on an error to begin the inning before Banda delivered her third hit of the game. Then with runners on second and third out, Guile brought Haget home with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 7-0.

Allie Daly then led off the top of the fifth with a double to end Hagemann's no-hit bid. But Hagemann retired three of the next four hitters to preserve the shutout.

Hagemann then worked around a walk and a hit batter over the final two innings to close out her third shutout of the season.

Nebraska missed a chance to end the game by leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth.

Nebraska looks for a sweep in game two of the doubleheader.
