Bio

Outlook: Entering his final season, senior Joel Reckewey looks to play a large role in the Husker lineup, as he will compete for significant time in the Nos. 4-6 slots. A three-year letterwinner, Reckewey will provide valuable guidance on the court this season as he has been a vocal leader throughout the offseason and in the fall.

In the Fall (2004): Reckewey came on strong at the end of the fall campaign for the second straight season, as he reached the semifinals of the consolation draw at the season-ending Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Reckewey also won all three singles matches at the Nebraska Invitational while finishing with a 7-5 fall record, including 3-0 in dual matches.

As a Junior (2003-04): Reckewey tied for the team lead with a career-high nine singles wins. He posted a team-high seven wins at the No. 6 slot while finishing 2-2 at No. 5 singles. Reckewey and Justin Junck competed at the No. 1 doubles position, seeing action in 19 matches for Nebraska. In fall action, Reckewey reached the quarterfinals of the Region V Championships singles draw and the 'A' Flight singles draw at the Louisville Fall Invitational. In the classroom, Reckewey was a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection.

As a Sophomore (2002-03): Reckewey was one of three Huskers to post a winning mark during the spring. He finished with a 7-6 record, all in dual matches. He was most proficient at the No. 5 slot, where he earned a 4-2 mark, the most wins at that slot by any Husker. Reckewey opened the season with a 5-1 mark, including a career-high five-match win streak following a season-opening loss. Reckewey was named to the academic All-Big 12 first team.

As a Freshman (2001-02): Reckewey posted an 8-11 mark during the dual meet season, playing mostly in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots. He was also 0-1 in singles play to open the year at the Rice Invitational. In doubles action, Reckewey teamed with Jacek Wolicki, seeing most of their playing time at the No. 1 position. The duo recorded a 2-15 mark, while Reckewey and Ryan Jay earned a 1-0 mark at the No. 2 position. Off the court, Reckewey was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in Fall 2001 and Spring 2002.

High School: Reckewey trained at the Mike Wolfe Tennis Academy in Kansas for four years. At Shawnee (Kan.) Mission South High School, he won the Kansas 6A state title in 2000 at No. 1 singles. A native of Lincoln, Neb., Reckewey attended Lincoln Southeast High School as a freshman where he won the 1996 Class A state tournament at No. 1 singles before leaving to train at the Wolfe Academy.

Personal: Joel is the son of Kent and Nancy Reckewey. He was born Oct. 16, 1981, and has one brother, Jon. Joel’s father was a member of the men’s basketball team at Nebraska, lettering from 1973 to 1975. Joel is majoring in finance at Nebraska.
