Miller, Hitchler Selected as NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients
Miller is the 2011-12 Nebraska Female Student-Athlete of the Year and completed her Husker career as a three-time All-American in June. She totaled three conference titles as a senior, adding to her previous Big 12 title in 2011. Miller was also a part of three school record breaking performances during her time at Nebraska, including the indoor 3,000 meters. She was honored by the Big Ten Conference with the Big Ten Medal of Honor and was also a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2011 and an academic All-Big Ten selection in 2012.
Hitchler finished his Husker career with three All-America accolades, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the discus at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He was honored as the 2011-12 Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year and was a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2011. Hitchler recorded a third-place finish in the discus at the 2012 Big Ten Outdoor Championships and finished sixth in the shot put at the 2012 Big Ten Indoor Championships. He was recognized by the Big Ten Conference with the Big Ten Medal of Honor and was also an academic All-Big Ten selection.
Created in 1964, NCAA postgraduate scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the association's most accomplished student-athletes with a one-time grant of $7,500. The Nebraska track and field program had a recipient for the second straight year as Natalie Willer was awarded the scholarship in 2011.
