Huskers Seventh after Day One at NCAAs

Columbus, Ohio - With one day of competition under their belts, the Nebraska rifle team is sitting in seventh place overall at the NCAA Championships. The Huskers fired a 2,297 on the smallbore range on Friday at Ohio State University. Defending national champions TCU led all teams in the first day of competition, posting a team score of 2,317.

Nebraska was paced by a career-high effort of 583 from Denise Martin, enabling the freshman to break into NCAA smallbore finals. Martin earned a fifth-place finish in finals, posting a 680.9 overall. Martin's national finish on the smallbore range is the highest for a Husker since Kristina Fehlings earned fifth overall at the 2006 NCAA Championships.

The Huskers will wrap up the NCAA Championships tomorrow with team air rifle competition and individual air rifle finals. The first air rifle relay is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. CST (8 a.m. EST), with individual finals completing the day at 12:45 p.m. CST (1:45 EST).
