Nebraska
junior defender Ari Romero not only made her first career start for the Mexican
Senior National Team on Thursday in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but also aided in a 2-1
win over the Brazilians.
Romero
and the rest of the Mexican National Team is competing at the IV International
Tournament in Sao Paulo, and is 1-1 after also dropping a game to Denmark. The
Mexicans wrap up play on Sunday, Dec. 16, with a game against Portugal.
Romero
has been steadily progressing through the Mexican National Team. After taking
part in a training camp with the Mexican Under-20 National Team in July 2011,
Romero was selected to be part of the Mexican National Team that competed at
the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, British
Columbia, in January 2012. She was also on the under-20 team that competed at
the CONCACAF Championships in Panama City, Panama, in February 2012.
Romero missed the first five games of Nebraska's 2012 season while competing for the
Mexican Under-20 National team at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan.
