Wil Richards was a regular on the Huskers’ special teams throughout his Nebraska career, including the first half of the 2013 season. Richards suffered an ankle injury in early November against Northwestern and was lost for the season, ending his Nebraska career. Despite missing the final five games, Richards was again among the Huskers’ top special teams tacklers this fall.
A walk-on, Richards was awarded a scholarship prior to the start of his senior season. He was one of 19 Husker seniors who made the bowl trip as a graduate after earning his degree in December. Richards was one of 30 Huskers to earn Academic All-Big Ten honors this fall, marking his third straight year on the team.

Before Nebraska (Lee's Summit West HS)
Richards came to Nebraska from Lee's Summit West High School in the Kansas City area, where he had a standout senior season for Coach Royce Boehm. Richards recorded 80 tackles and intercepted nine passes, including two that he returned for touchdowns. His play earned him first-team Class 5A all-state selection by the Missouri Coaches Association, and he was a first-team All-Metro pick by the Kansas City Star.
Richards also earned first-team all-state honors from the state coaches association during his junior season. Richards turned down a scholarship offer from Air Force to walk-on with Nebraska.

Wil is majoring in business administration and has earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2012 and the fall and spring of 2012-13.
