Lincoln—Nebraska women’s bowling senior Kristina Mickelson won the X-Bowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln Saturday afternoon. Mickelson beat Tannya Rournimper of Wichita State University 289-223 to clinch the title.
Mickelson was ecstatic with her performance Saturday recording a 289, with 10 strikes and a 10 pin spare to finish out the championship match.
“I am really glad I got to bowl here this week,” Mickelson said, “I was hoping things would go like they did on Tuesday (referring to the qualifying rounds) and they did. I changed my bowling ball going into the championship and it really worked out, the pins were really falling for me.”
With the singles championship, this wraps up quite a spectacular week for Mickelson after clinching the NCAA National Championship for the Huskers last Saturday night in Canton, Mich.
Mickelson started off competition Tuesday with two dominating performances, the first against Morgan O’Brien of Clarke University. Mickelson beat O’Brien 758-661 (pinfall) in a three game series. In the second match, Mickelson faced Jackie Carbonetto of Sacred Heart University winning 720-618.
After a three day rest, Mickelson faced Jazreel Tan of Wichita State in the single game Semifinal Round. Tan was no match for Mickelson as the two-time NCAA National Champion won 192-165 (single-game pinfall).
Sophomore Liz Kuhlkin also competed in the tournament, losing in a close match Tuesday against Jessica Earnest of Vanderbilt 641-519.
With this tournament win, Kristina Mickelson wraps up her tremendous career as a Husker bowler. Mickelson will be missed dearly by everyone in the Nebraska Athletic Department, and we would like to wish Kristina the best of luck in the future.
