Outlook: A three-year letterwinner, senior co-captain Markus Bergerheim will provide leadership to an otherwise youthful squad. The senior from Kullavic, Sweden, has filled in throughout the Husker lineup for Head Coach Kerry McDermott. Bergerheim, who is ranked 28th in the Central Region in the preseason, is slated to play No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles with Dinko Verzi this season. The duo is eighth in the region.
Fall 1997: Bergerheim went 4-3, seeing action at the Rolex Regional and againt nationally-ranked Tulsa. Bergerheim and junior Dinko Verzi advanced to the semifinals at the No. 1 doubles flight at the Tom Fallon Invitational en route to a team-best 5-3 record in the fall.
1996-97: Bergerheim had his best season as a junior, going 13-10 while playing both third and fourth singles. Bergerheim went 5-4 in Big 12 Conference matches. He teamed with Verzi in posting an 11-12 record at first doubles. Bergerheim was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.
1995-96: During his sophomore season, Bergerheim made an impact in the NU lineup in 1996. After playing No. 5-6 singles as a freshman, he moved up to No. 1 singles and was 7-11 overall, including a 3-3 conference mark. Bergerheim, who was ranked 16th in Region V, also teamed with former Husker Thomas Wheat in posting a 4-8 mark at No. 2 doubles.
1994-95: As a freshman, Bergerheim went 5-3 while playing both fifth and sixth singles. In doubles, the freshman from Sweden recorded a 3-3 mark.
Other: The son of Tord and Louise Bergerheim, Markus majors in architecture and carries a 3.689 grade-point average. He has one older sister, Nina.
