Former Husker Pluhowsky Wins Big at BPAA

Former Nebraska women’s bowler and current Team USA member Shannon Pluhowsky won the BPAA (Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America) Women’s All-Star Tournament in Rockford Ill., Friday July 25.

Pluhowsky, one of the most decorated bowlers NU has had in its history beat Diana Zavjalova of Latvia, 225-212. Zavjalova clung to a one-pin lead until a missed 2-4-8-10 split in the ninth frame gave Pluhowsky a chance to shut her out.

In winning the tournament, Pluhowsky earned a prize of $15,000 in the win.

In 36 career events at Nebraska, she has 25 top-five finishes, including a school-record 12 individual titles. In fact, she has finished in the top 25 in every tournament she has competed since arriving in Lincoln in the fall of 2000.

Two other former Huskers competed in the tournament, as Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty finished sixth and Cassandra Leuthold finished eighth.
