Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team defeated Northern Iowa 155-82 Saturday
morning at the Devaney Natatorium. With the victory, the Huskers improved to
10-0 in duals on the season.
The Huskers won all thirteen
events on the day in another impressive showing. It was the squad's first time facing
Northern Iowa since 2007, and the first time facing UNI head coach Doug
Humphrey since his move from Nebraska after last season. Humphrey spent 20
years with the Huskers from 1991-2011 (five years as a swimmer, four as a
graduate assistant, and eleven as an assistant).
Juniors Bailey Pons and Payton
Michaud led the way for Nebraska on the day. Pons won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.27)
and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.71), while Michaud was victorious in both the one-meter
dive (297.60) and three-meter dive (302.63).
Hayley Martin, Natalie
Morris, Taryn Collura, Katie Ditter, Katie Davis, Ellan Dufour, and Morgan
Flannigan also tallied victories for the Huskers, as the squad continued its
spread-out success. Combined with Friday's victory over South Dakota State,
Nebraska had 18 different swimmers who either won individual events or were a
part of winning relay teams on the weekend.
Next week will
see the Husker divers travel to Houston, Texas, for the Phil Hansel Invite
Nov.15-17. Meanwhile, the Husker swimmers with head to Topeka, Kan., for the
Kansas Classic Nov. 16-17.
After that, the
squad will have two weeks to prepare for its Nov.30-Dec. 02 trek to Iowa City,
Iowa, for the Hawkeye Invitational. The Huskers will then take a month off
before returning to the pool in January for holiday training.
