Marton Zsiga (pronounced ZHIG-uh) arrives at Nebraska to join the Huskers in time for spring 2007 competition. Head coach Kerry McDermott will look to the talented Zsiga to make an immediate impact on this year’s Nebraska roster.
“Right away Marton will look to compete for a spot in the top five,” said McDermott. “He certainly adds to an already talented team and as a coach I hope to see that his success will push the other members of the team.”
While attending Korosy Jozsef in Szeged, Hungary, Zsiga was a two-time Hungarian champion winning a singles title in 2002 and doubles championship in 2005. Zsiga was ranked as high as No. 12 in the nation during his high school career.
Marton was born on Feb. 21, 1987 in Budapest, Hungary, and is the son of Dr. Zsiga Laszlo (father) and Dr. Zsiga Laszlone (mother). He has one brother, Mate (14), and is majoring in Business Administration at Nebraska.
