Moore Makes WNBA Debut Against Griffin

By NU Athletic Communications

Nebraska All-America point guard Lindsey Moore notched her first WNBA assist in Minnesota's 90-74 win over Husker All-America forward Kelsey Griffin and the Connecticut Sun Saturday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Moore produced one assist and one rebound in 3:35 off the bench in her WNBA regular-season debut for the Lynx. The defending Western Conference champion Lynx led by 13 at the half and 19 at the end of three quarters.

While Moore played a limited role, partly because of an early season calf injury, 2010 Big 12 Player of the Year Kelsey Griffin started at power forward for the Sun. Griffin produced six points, six rebounds and a pair of assists in more than 23 minutes of work for Connecticut, which slipped to 1-2 on the season.

It was the third straight start to open the season for Griffin, who is averaging 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists at the beginning of her fourth season with the Sun.

A strong contingent of Husker fans were on hand at the Target Center for the game, including a bus load of Fastbreakers Booster Club members who organized a trip to support Nebraska’s two active WNBA players.

Maya Moore led the Lynx with 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Seimone Augustus added 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Minnesota starting point guard Lindsey Whalen pitched in nine points and four assists.

Lindsey Moore and the Lynx return to action Thursday night at the Target Center to take on the Phoenix Mercury. Kelsey Griffin and the Sun return home to take on the Washington Mystics Friday. Griffin and the Sun will face the defending WNBA champion Indiana Fever in Indianapolis on Wednesday, June 12. The game will be televised live by ESPN2 with a 7 p.m. (CST) tip.
