Nebraska's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was implemented in 1987 to ensure that student-athletes have a voice regarding their total student-athlete experience. SAAC is a recognized student organization at the University of Nebraska and consists of at least one team appointed representative from each of Nebraska's 24 intercollegiate teams. SAAC meets bi-weekly throughout the academic year, communicating directly with Director of Athletics, Shawn Eichorst on various student-athlete welfare issues. SAAC also coordinates a number of events within the athletic department and in the community of Lincoln to promote the importance of education, service and responsible decision making. Nebraska's SAAC has been recognized across the country as one of the most comprehensive, consistent and productive in the country. Assistant Director of Life Skills, Jordan Wilson serves as the SAAC advisor.

SAAC 2015-2016 Year-In-Review

Under the leadership of President Caroline Flynn, the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee enjoyed a productive year making an impact on the Nebraska Student-Athlete Experience. With outstanding support from officers Jacqueline JufferCody Rush and Lotte Sjulin. The 2015-16 year kicked off with a retreat at the University Campus Recreation Outdoor Adventure Center. There, SAAC members took part in rock climbing and problem solving activities where they focused on leadership development and teamwork.

The 52 student-athlete members, representing every sport, met bi-weekly throughout the year for a total of 15 evening meetings, with Sport Administrators attending at least one meeting per semester. Each athlete selected one of four committees to be a part of for the year: Campus Collaboration, Student-Athlete Welfare, Community Service, and Diversity and Inclusion. In addition, members had 6 luncheons with the Student-Athlete Services and Experience Management Team throughout the year to discuss any hot topics. Throughout the year, the group accomplished a number of initiatives including the Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive, Spring Cleaning Clothing & Shoe Drive, Mix It Up Night at the Training Table, continued their ALL N home meet initiative for the third year, held the SAAC Holiday Dance that focused on bringing sports together for a night of fun and games at the stadium, organized Stress Free Finals Zone in the fall and spring that included donated snacks from local restaurants, and collaborated with the Inner Circle group for a “Thank A Mentor” handwritten notecard event and an end of the year barbeque at Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst's house. Additionally, SAAC continues to have representation on the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee ensuring regular communication and updates with faculty advocates.
