Husker Attack Silences Wolverines

Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 9 Nebraska volleyball team (21-4, 14-2) defeated the No. 19 Michigan Wolverines 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19) on Saturday evening at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. For the second time this season, two Huskers posted 20 or more kills to lead NU in the victory.

Kelsey Robinson paved the way with a double-double as she recorded 21 kills, 12 digs and chipped in a career-high six blocks. Kadie Rolfzen notched a double-double with a career-high-tying 20 kills and 10 digs, while hitting at a clip of .444. Mary Pollmiller handed out 52 assists on the night, while Justine Wong-Orantes notched a team-high 13 digs. Meghan Haggerty led NU at the net with a career-high 11 blocks.

Nebraska hit .286 for the match, while Michigan hit .216. NU out-blocked the Wolverines 18-9, marking the third time this season the Huskers have notched 18 total blocks. NU also out-dug UM 60-53.

Michigan took an early 10-5 advantage in the first set, but a kill from Kadie Rolfzen helped the Huskers cut into the Wolverine’s lead at 12-10. Three straight double blocks from the Huskers tied the set at 17-17, while a kill from Kadie Rolfzen gave the Huskers their first lead of the set at 19-18. NU’s block came alive down the stretch as the Huskers went up 21-19, and NU closed out the Wolverines on a 4-0 run to win the first set 25-20.

Kadie Rolfzen posted seven kills in the first set, while Robinson had five. Pollmiller handed out 13 assists and the Huskers hit .281 for the set. Michigan hit .135, while NU out-blocked UM 6-4.

A kill and block from Robinson to end a long rally put the Huskers up 8-5 in the second set. A kill from Pollmiller made it 11-8, Huskers, but the Wolverines posted a 4-0 run to go up 12-11 and force Nebraska to call a timeout. Michigan went up 18-15, and then stretched its lead to 21-17 as the Huskers used another timeout. Michigan held on to win the second set 25-20.

Robinson and Kadie Rolfzen both had three kills in the set. Nebraska hit just .114, while Michigan hit .237. NU out-blocked the Wolverines 5-2.

Cecilia Hall helped the Huskers to a 6-3 lead in the third set, but the Wolverines responded with a 5-0 run to make it 8-6, Michigan. Robinson and Haggerty teamed up for a block to make it 16-13, Huskers, while a kill from Kadie Rolfzen lifted NU to a 23-20 lead. Nebraska won the third set 25-21.

Robinson led the way with seven kills in the third set, while Kadie Rolfzen had four. Nebraska hit .378 in the set as the Wolverines hit .308.

A kill from Haggerty tied the fourth set at 6-6, while a long rally from the Huskers resulted in a kill from Robinson and gave the Huskers a 10-7 lead. Back-to-back kills from Robinson put Nebraska ahead 15-10 in the set, as the Huskers continued to stretch their lead with an ace from Robinson at 20-14, NU. Nebraska went on to win the fourth set 25-19.

Kadie Rolfzen and Robinson both had six kills in the fourth set, as Nebraska hit .361. Michigan hit .179 and both teams recorded three blocks.

The Huskers are on the road next weekend as they travel to Purdue and Indiana on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16.
