Sjulin Named December PlayMaker of the Month

By NU Athletic Communications

Senior outfielder/catcher Lotte Sjulin ended a decorated fall semester by being named the December 2016 PlayMaker of the Month by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS). Sjulin was one of two student-athletes nationally to earn the honor.

The NCAS PlayMaker of the Month award recognizes the academic achievement and community services efforts of student-athletes at NCAS member institutions. Nominees must carry a 3.0 grade point average, and they must be active participants in community service and/or social change advocacy.

In the classroom, Sjulin is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and two-time academic All-Big Ten selection, and she has made the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll every semester of her career. In the community, Sjulin is a three-year member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team, which requires a Husker student-athlete to complete a minimum of six service projects in the academic calendar year. She has also received a Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award and earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2015.

A biology major, Sjulin carries a cumulative GPA above 3.8. The PlayMaker-of-the-Month honor was merely the latest recent accolade for the senior. In addition to serving as president of Nebraska's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2016-17 academic year, this fall Sjulin was named a 2017 team captain and was selected as UNL's Homecoming Queen.

Sjulin and her Husker teammates begin practice on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Nebraska has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of Sjulin's first three seasons, including two trips to the NCAA Regional Final and one NCAA Regional title.
