2013 (Junior)

Eric Schryver plans to take aim at All-America honors in 2013 after claiming Nebraska’s first Big Ten medal with a third-place finish on pommel horse in 2012.

Schryver opened his 2013 season at the Visa Championships, where he competed on three events (horse, parallel bars, high bar). He tied for 10th on horse with a two-day score of 27.650.

A leader both inside and outside the gym, the junior was named one of four co-captains.

“Eric is all about the team,” Nebraska Coach Chuck Chmelka. “It’s all for the team.”

2012 (Sophomore)

Schryver qualified for the NCAA Individual Semifinals on parallel bars, after capturing Nebraska’s first-ever Big Ten medal in the event at the conference championships. He posted a 14.20 on the bars in the Big Ten Finals in Iowa City to take third. Earlier in the season, Schryver notched a career-high 14.65 on parallel bars against Arizona State on March 4.

The native of Richardson, Texas, also excelled in the classroom for the Huskers. He was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and was one of eight Huskers to earn academic All-Big Ten honors. He also claimed spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll both semesters.

2011 (Freshman) 

Schryver competed on four events for the Huskers as a freshman, while leading the team on horse. He captured three individual event titles on horse. He posted a school record in the event with a career-high 15.50 to win the event title in a triangular with Minnesota and Iowa on March 19. Schryver added an event title with a 15.20 at Iowa on Feb. 19, after earning his first collegiate title on horse with a 14.90 against Air Force on Jan. 30. He added a 15.30 in the triangular with Oklahoma and Illinois-Chicago to give him three scores of 15.00 or better on the event during the season.

Schryver closed his first season at Nebraska with a solid showing at the 2011 NCAA Championships. He unleashed a career-high 14.30 on still rings in the NCAA Qualifier, while matching his second-best performance of the season with a 14.20 on parallel bars. He also competed on high bar (13.85) and pommel horse (13.55) at the NCAA Championships as a freshman.

Schryver concluded his freshman season with seven consecutive scores of 14.15 or better on parallel bars. He also posted a career-high 14.60 on high bar against eventual national champion Stanford on March 6.

Schryver earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the fall of 2010.

Before Nebraska   

Schryver came to Nebraska after competing for the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy Level 10 men’s team. He competed in the VISA Championships, Junior Olympic Nationals, Pacific Coast Classics and the Texas State Championships. He placed 11th at the 2009 VISA Championships.

Schryver graduated with honors from Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas.

Personal

Eric was born May 14, 1992 in Dallas, Texas, and is the son of Wayne and Laura Schryver. Eric has three siblings, an older sister, Amanda, and two younger brothers, Ian and Michael. Eric is a nutrition and health sciences major (pre-medicine) at Nebraska. He was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an academic All-Big Ten pick in 2012. He earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2011 and 2012 and the spring semester 2012. He was a Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection in the fall of 2010. He also earned a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership award in 2012.

He chose Nebraska over Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota.
