A Message From Tom Osborne

I want to welcome you to another historic Nebraska football season in our 50th anniversary year of an ongoing NCAA record for consecutive sellouts. It is a remarkable record and the reason why entrances to Memorial Stadium are inscribed with: "Through these gates pass the Greatest Fans in College Football."

Having been at Nebraska to serve on Bob Devaney's first coaching staff in 1962, I understand the reason behind such words. The intent is to salute your unmatched loyalty and support in both victory and defeat over this past half century.

Records show that Nebraska has won more games than any other Division I football program over the past 50 years. I know all Nebraska fans take great pride in that fact, but I am even prouder of another tradition – the sportsmanship that sets us apart in one of the finest venues in college football.

Opposing coaches, players and fans remember how they were treated and often comment on their experience. I appreciate you taking on that role and sustaining our standards for respect, and I feel we all share the burden of living up to the descriptions that greet both the home and the visiting teams that play here.

Our first season in the Big Ten Conference was exciting last year, and we're embracing another competitive challenge this year. Coach Pelini, his staff and our players work hard year-round to meet the high standards of Nebraska football, and our fans continue to be an important part of our success.

On the golden anniversary season of our record for consecutive sellouts, we honor you, our fans, and the core values that I believe have made Nebraska great ... honesty, courage, character, loyalty and faith in the game. Thank you for being an important part of those values that we strive to meet every day.

Best Wishes,
