April 30 Deadline for Bo’s Celebrity Dinner
By Randy York
If you missed the first two Bo Pelini Foundation Celebrity Dinners, you missed a chance to hear Nebraska’s head football coach laugh about his golf game and Larry the Cable Guy help you laugh about everything else. Larry the Cable Guy is a first-class entertainer, and Bo’s Foundation Dinner is a first-class event that has opened up the opportunity for non-golfers to join the fun and support the cause.
Monday, April 30, at 5 p.m. is the deadline to register for Bo’s third annual celebrity dinner, which will be held on Sunday, May 6, at the Embassy Suites-LaVista Hotel. The social hour/silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and joining Larry the Cable Guy as celebrities scheduled to attend are Ndamukong Suh, the 2011 NFL Rookie of the Year, and Eric Crouch, Nebraska’s 2001 Heisman Trophy winner. “We appreciate the generous support of Nebraskans,” Pelini said, acknowledging that his Foundation has donated more than $400,000 to a variety of local charities (see list below), including $200,000 to fight breast cancer.
“We’re working for a cure against breast cancer and juvenile diabetes and have been able to provide assistance for disadvantaged children right here in Nebraska,” Pelini said. “We believe the dinner provides a unique opportunity to meet our celebrities and coaches.”
Connie Jamrog, executive director of the Bo Pelini Foundation (402-326-5609), said the annual event includes a unique collection of more than 150 auction items, including a list of football experience packages, plus memorabilia collected from the Husker legends/celebrities who attend the dinner. The live auction begins at 8 p.m., and to be honest, that’s when the fun begins and the entertainment peaks because once Larry the Cable Guy, the emcee, starts talking with the auctioneer, their creative repartee almost becomes worth the price of admission. Following Sunday night’s celebrity dinner, 32 foursomes will play in the 2012 Bo Pelini Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament on Monday at the Omaha Country Club.
Over the past year, the following charities have benefited from a Bo Pelini Foundation donation:Make A Wish Foundation, Peoples City Mission, Youth Actor’s Academy of Lincoln, Nebraska Children’s Home Society, Angels Among Us, Camp CoHoLo, American Lung Association, D.A.D.S, Ron Stoops and Anthony Pelini Foundation, Short Bowel Foundation, Uta Halee, Hope Crisis Center, Playing for Pink, Ndamukong Suh Family Foundation, Grant Wistrom Foundation, UNMC Eppley Cancer Center, City Impact, Heartland Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Ted E.
