The annual Networking Night
was held on Tuesday, February 21st providing second year
student-athletes the chance to build their professional network by interacting
with 15 outstanding professionals from diverse fields. The majority of the
participating professionals were former Huskers who were excited to give back
by sharing valuable career insights and advice to help the current
student-athletes gain valuable networking experience.
The evening started off with
keynote speaker, Eddie Brown, addressing ten helpful tips for successful
networking. Modeled after speed dating, the student-athletes then took
part in a group-based version of speed networking, where they were matched with
professionals based on their career interests and skills. The professionals
helped affirm the power of first-impressions, while providing time for the
students to ask questions and develop their networking skills.
When the structured
networking portion concluded, the student-athletes had an opportunity to put
their skills to the test as they mixed and mingled over hors d'oeuvres and
beverages with the professionals they did not have a chance to meet, as well as
follow-up with ones with whom they connected.
