Huskers Finish Strong, Earn Second Win
The Nebraska bowling team needed a strong last day of competition as the team won its second tournament in a row Sunday afternoon at the Prairie View A&M Invite in Arlington, Texas. The Huskers stifled Maryland Eastern Shore 4-1 in the final match of the tournament, capping off a tremendous day three performance.
Head Coach Bill Straub was impressed with the teams’ performance Sunday, but noted that the tournament did not start out the way the team wanted it to.
“Luckily the tournament was a three day tournament because the first two days we struggled.” Straub said, “We made some adjustments going into the final day that gave us a different view on some things, and ultimately gave us our confidence back.”
Leading the way for the Huskers was sophomore Liz Kuhlkin. Kuhlkin finished third in the individual standings with an average game of 209.8, earning a spot on the all tournament team for the second time this season.
Straub was impressed with Kuhlkin’s overall performance, as well as her intensity in the first two days of competition.
“Liz’s performance through the first two days was tremendous; she really kept the team in it.” Straub said.
Freshman Beth Hedley added another strong performance to her 2012-13 campaign, recording a game of 202 on the final day of competition. Hedley finished 22nd in the individual standings, bowling a five game average score of 183.4.
The Huskers finished finishing the weekend of competition with an overall record of 11-2, while finishing fourth in total team pinfall with 8442.
