Strength & Conditioning

The Nebraska women's basketball strength and conditioning program plays a major role in the success of the Huskers. Nebraska's strength program was the first in the nation across all sports, and its full-time staff members include a dedicated strength and conditioning coach for women's basketball - Rusty Ruffcorn.

Ruffcorn works with the Nebraska women's basketball coaching staff to help optimize training for the Huskers on and off the court in order to reach peak performance during the season.

The women's basketball program utilizes a 5,000-square foot weight room inside the Hendricks Training Complex, just steps away from women's basketball practice gym, the locker room and athletic medicine. The Hendricks Training Complex weight room, which opened in October of 2011, features five transformer machines and a strength wall.

Three Reasons for Success

The Nebraska women's basketball strength and conditioning program is geared for maximum improvement of performance on the basketball court. Each athlete receives her own individual computerized program each year.

Nebraska Women's Basketball Strength Coach Rusty Ruffcorn is devoted to helping Husker players prepare for successful careers on the court. Ruffcorn has worked directly with the women's basketball program since 2006, and has helped the Huskers earn seven NCAA Tournament trips (2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) while capturing conference championships in 2010 (Big 12) and 2014 (Big Ten). Nebraska also earned NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2010 and 2013.

Ruffcorn has also helped All-Americans Kelsey Griffin, Jordan Hooper and Lindsey Moore earn spots in the WNBA. He also worked directly with WNBA free agent Danielle Page, while Cory Montgomery, Yvonne Turner and Kiera Hardy all saw preseason action with WNBA teams. Page (Serbia, 2016) and Chelsea Aubry (2012), a Canadian Olympic captain, have played at the highest international levels, enjoying nearly decade-long professional careers.

In addition to the technologically advanced Hendricks Training Complex, Husker Power features the nation's finest strength and conditioning facilities in the Charles and Romona Myers Performance Center at the Osborne Complex in Memorial Stadium.
