The Nebraska volleyball team begins a challenging week Wednesday night, as the Huskers take on Missouri to begin the home stretch of the regular season First serve from a sold-out Nebraska Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be carried on the Husker Sports Network, including B107.3 FM in Lincoln, KHUS 93.3 FM in Omaha, and on Huskers.com. The Huskers (19-1, 11-1 Big 12) will look to bounce back following a loss at Texas last Wednesday night, snapping Nebraska’s 29-match win streak dating back to last season. Sarah Pavan had 17 kills for NU, but the Huskers were held to a season-low .145 hitting percentage in being out-hit for only the second time in the last 54 matches. Texas became only the fourth team in the last 254 matches to hit over .300 against the Huskers, who lead the Big 12 in opponent hitting percentage at .159. With the loss, Nebraska is 11-1 in the Big 12 and slipped a half-game behind Texas’ 12-1 mark. The Huskers will look to bounce back from the match to Texas in a similar way to last season, when they won their final 10 matches en route to the program’s third national title.
The Huskers will look to start their streak against a familiar foe, as the Huskers and Tigers (13-9, 6-7 Big 12) will meet for the second time in the last three weeks Wednesday. Missouri snapped a three-match losing streak with a five-game victory at Kansas on Saturday. In that match, Na Yang totaled a match-high 22 kills and 16 digs to pace six Tigers in double figures in kills. Lei Wang recorded a triple-double for the Tigers in the win with 10 kills, 11 digs and 45 assists.
NU Volleyball Quick Hits
-Jordan Larson enters Wednesday’s match needing five kills to become the 19th Husker to reach 1,000 kills in a career.
-Wednesday’s match is the first time NU has played on Halloween since a 3-0 sweep of Iowa State on 1998. NU is 9-1 all-time on Halloween with five of those matches coming on the same day in 1975 - the first year of the program. NU has faced Missouri twice on Halloween, posting sweeps in both 1975 and 1992.
-Nebraska dropped out of the No. 1 spot for the first time since the end of the 2005 season on Monday. It ended an AVCA record 26-week run at the top spot. Wednesday’s match will mark the first time since Nov. 27, 2004, that the Huskers have not been ranked No. 1 at match time - a span of 94 matches.
Scouting Missouri
Under Coach Wayne Kreklow (56-27 in three seasons), Missouri comes into Wednesday’s match with a 13-9 record and a 6-7 mark in the Big 12. The Tigers have been streaky in conference action, sandwiching losing streaks of four and three matches around a five-match win streak.
The Tigers feature one of the league’s top outside hitters in senior Na Yang, who is fifth in the Big 12 with 4.39 kills per game. She is one of three Tigers averaging at least 2.50 kills per game, joining Megan Wilson (2.67 k/gm) and Weiwen Wang (2.81 k/gm). Senior libero Tatum Ailes leads the Big 12 with 4.94 digs per game and had 32 digs in the Tigers’ win at Kansas on Saturday. The Tigers have a distinctive Nebraska look, as four players, Ailes, Megan Wilson, Catie Wilson and Amanda Hnatouli, all hail from Nebraska. Of the 14 players on the Missouri roster, seven are from either Nebraska or China.
The Huskers lead the all-time series, 64-3-1, in a series that dates back to Oct. 31, 1975. The Huskers have won the last eight matches in the series, including sweeps in the last three matches. NU has won 26 of 28 matchups in Lincoln.
Last Time vs. Missouri
It was too much Tracy Stalls, as No. 1 Nebraska continued its winning ways with a 31-29, 30-18, 30-14 victory over Missouri in front of a crowd off 6,059 at the Hearnes Center on Oct. 17.
Stalls hammered home 15 kills on just 19 swings for the Huskers. The senior middle blocker set season bests in both hitting percentage (.737) and blocks (six) to power a potent Husker attack. Sarah Pavan led Nebraska with 18 kills on .516 hitting and four stuffs, while outside hitter Christina Houghtelling was the third Husker to finish in double figures in kills with 11 while adding three service aces.
Rachel Holloway guided the Huskers to a .458 hitting percentage, totaling 55 assists her best three-game total of her career and adding five digs and four kills on seven swings of her own. She helped NU hit over .400 in all three games, including a .513 clip in the finale, as NU posted its 15th consecutive sweep.

-The Huskers have won their last 66 home matches dating back to the 2004 campaign. The win streak is the third longest in NCAA history.
-Nebraska leads the nation in hitting percentage (.331), assists (16.82) and kills (18.40) per game following last weekend’s matches. The Huskers are on pace to shatter single-season marks in all three areas and are looking to become only the second team - and first since Hawaii in 2002 - to lead in all three areas.
-Nebraska has won its last 41 Big 12 matches at the NU Coliseum dating back to the 2003 season.
-The Huskers are 74-3 (.961) in their last 77 Big 12 Conference matches dating back to the 2003 season.
-The Huskers have played their last 93 matches as the nation’s top-ranked team in the AVCA poll, dating back to the end of the 2004 campaign. NU is 88-5 in that stretch.

Destinee Hooker and Juliann Faucette combined for 30 kills, as Texas became the first Big 12 team to sweep the Huskers since the Longhorns accomplished the feat in 1997.
With the win, Texas forged into a tie with Nebraska at the top of the Big 12 standings. The Huskers swept the first meeting between the teams in Lincoln on Sept. 12. -It marked the first time since the final poll of the 2005 season that NU was not ranked No. 1. The 26 straight weeks at No. 1 broke the previous record of 24 set by USC between 2002 and 2004.
-Seniors Christina Houghtelling, Sarah Pavan and Tracy Stalls are the only current Huskers remaining from the 2004 team, as 11 of the 14 Huskers had played as the nation’s No. 1 team their entire career.
-The Huskers played their last 93 matches as the nation’s top-ranked team, going 88-5 in that stretch. NU won 36 of 40 matches against ranked teams during the run, including a 9-2 record against top-five teams.

-Nebraska is one of two teams to be ranked in the AVCA Coaches poll for all 362 weeks of its existence. The Huskers have been ranked in the top 10 for 328 weeks, which trails only Stanford’s 332 weeks in the top 10.

Caution: Milestones Quickly Approaching
While Pavan set NU’s school record for most kills in a career earlier this month, a number of plateaus could fall during the second half of the 2007 season.
-Junior outside hitter Jordan Larson owns 995 career kills and is five kills away from becoming the 19th Husker to ever reach the 1,000-kill plateau. She also has 922 career digs, she is 33 digs away from 10th place on that list.
-Larson is on pace to join two-time All-American Jennifer Saleaumua and Eileen Shannon as the only players in school history with both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. No player in school history has reached the 1,000-1,000 plateau prior to their senior year.
-Seniors Sarah Pavan and Tracy Stalls could finish their careers during one of the most successful eras in college volleyball history. They have been a part of a national championship team (2006), two national championship matches (2005-06) and three Big 12 titles (2004-06) entering the home stretch of the 2007 season. Here is a look at the winningest classes in school history.
-Both Sarah Pavan and Jordan Larson are climbing NU’s top-10 list for aces. Pavan and Larson are tied for sixth place with 121 aces, nine away from tying Annie Adamczak for fifth all-time.
- Tracy Stalls is quickly climbing NU’s career blocks list. The senior middle blocker has 529 career blocks to sit in eighth place on the Husker career chart. She is nine blocks away from from matching Tonia Tauke for seventh place on NU’s list.
