Lincoln - The Nebraska Athletic Department is proud to present the first of the three Walk-On Club Luncheons this season on Sept. 18 at the Lincoln Station in the Haymarket in Lincoln.  The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m., and will feature keynote speaker Athletic Director Tom Osborne as well as guest speaker Mike Tranmer, a former Nebraska Football walk-on and team captain.

The luncheon on Sept. 18 will be the first of a series of three luncheons, with the other two to be held on Oct. 23 and Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Station.  All of the luncheons will feature keynote speakers from the current Husker Football staff and former walk-ons as additional guest speakers. Tickets to the luncheons cost $25 each, and tables of eight can be reserved for $200. Reserved tables to all three luncheons can be purchased at a discounted rate of $575.  Reservations for the first luncheon must be received by Sept. 15.

The luncheons are sponsored by the Walk-On Club, as presented by the Extra Point Club.  The newly revitalized club was created to help Head Football Coach Bo Pelini achieve his goal of restoring the traditional walk-on program Nebraska football built over the years.  With additional walk-ons joining the team, the walk-on budget needed to increase to recruit and outfit the new players, provide support services and account for additional operating costs.

The Club offers several membership benefits, including invitations to the Walk-On Club Luncheons, a spring practice event, other Club events, e-newsletters, and the opportunity to win a pair of tickets to the Nebraska-Colorado football game held on Nov. 28.  Membership is a donation of $100, 80 percent of which is tax-deductible.  In addition to supporting the walk-on program, the Club will also contribute to a postgraduate scholarship to a Husker walk-on each year.
