Tia Claps was invited to walk
on at Nebraska
and hopes to immediately contribute to the diving team as a freshman. The
Huskers only return two divers from a year ago, so Claps and fellow freshman
D’Arcy Schmidt will be thrown into the mix right away. Claps has plenty of
talent and experience, closing her high school career at Broomfield
its all-time diving leader.
Claps was a two-time state
qualifier at BroomfieldHigh School in Colorado.
She left the school as its all-time diving leader. Claps was a runner-up in the
three meter springboard and had a third-place finish in the one-meter dive at
the State Games of America, and was an AAU national qualifier on the one-meter
tower. Claps dove at the Mile High Dive Club in Denver, where the team was a three-time
Sagebrush and three-time Region Six champion. An academic All-America
selection, Claps also lettered in track and gymnastics in addition to swimming
and diving in high school.
Tia was born on Dec. 12, 1989,
in Denver, Colo. She is the daughter of Don and Cindy
Claps, and has one brother, Chris. Tia has not declared a major at Nebraska.
