Nebraska nose tackle Ndamukong Suh has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance in Nebraska’s 45-35 win over Kansas.
Suh recorded 12 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss. Those totals all represented career bests for Suh, who leads Nebraska in tackles with 60 total stops this season. He is also tied for the team lead in sacks (4.5) and tackles for loss (12). Suh also caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Joe Ganz in the fourth quarter and played several other snaps at fullback in short-yardage situations.
Suh’s 12 tackles were the most by a Husker defensive linemen in three seasons and his 2.5 sacks were the most by a Husker since 2003. The Portland, Ore., native is also in position to become the first Husker defensive lineman to lead the team in tackles since 1973.
The selection of Suh represents the first time a Husker defender has been named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week since Bo Ruud was selected following Nebraska’s victory over Missouri in 2006.
