Will Shields is one of 10 first-team Nebraska football All-Americans with a last name beginning with the letter "S," making it the most prolific letter in the Huskers' rich All-America history. Shields, the 1992 Outland Trophy winner, is also the only NU football All-American in history from the state of Oklahoma. Shields was an 11-time Pro Bowl selection with the Kansas City Chiefs and the 2003 NFL Man of the Year.

Nebraska owns one of the richest All-America traditions in all of college football. The Huskers' 96 first-team All-Americans stretch from the top to the bottom of the alphabet, covering 20 letters. Nebraska All-Americans have combined for 110 All-America awards and have to the Cornhusker football program from 25 states across America and the District of Columbia.
