1988 (Senior)

Nelson switched to right side offensive guard and was the Husker's top player at that position. Earned second-team Academic All-America honors.

1987 (Junior)

Nelson lettered his junior year as the alternate left guard behind Andy Keeler. After recovering from his knee injury, Nelson emerged as one of the Husker's quickest and strongest offensive linemen.

1986 (Sophomore)

Nelson injured his knee during a practice in spring ball and was forced to sit the season out due to reconstructive knee surgery.

1985 (Redshirt)

Nelson used his redshirt after his freshman year.

1984 (Freshman)

Nelson walked on to the Husker football team and was Keeler's backup at left guard on the fall's 4-1 Husker freshman team.

Before Nebraska (Minden HS)
Nelson lettered three times in football and track at Minden High School. He also letter twice in basketball. Nelson was an all-state gridder and won the Class B shot put title in 1984.

John is the son of Roy and Karen Nelson, he has one brother and one sister. He was born on Dec. 27, 1965 in Kearney, Neb.
