This week Nebraska travels into the heart of Texas to face the Baylor Bears, another offensively challenged team that only managed to score seven points against Oklahoma State last week and 10 points the week before that against Iowa State.

There is a reason for Baylor’s struggles. Talented quarterback Robert Griffin, a world-class hurdler, is out for the year with a knee injury. So the Bears have alternated between senior Blake Szymanski and freshman Nick Florence at quarterback.

Much like Iowa State, Baylor is an offense that should not give the Huskers too many problems.

The Bears, though, have some talented defensive players, including pre-season all-conference selections in linebacker Joe Pawelek and safety Jordan Lake. Both were very active last year in Lincoln, and they will be around the football all day long.

Bo Pelini is saying again this week that the coaches are looking at their options on offense. Look for freshman Cody Green to get snaps at quarterback. When Green is in the game, the Huskers will focus on running the ball more and using the zone read.

Roy Helu Jr., the Huskers’ leading rusher, is better after nursing a sore shoulder the last couple of weeks. It was also announced earlier this week that Khiry Cooper will start at one wide receiver spot. Expect sophomore Brandon Kinnie to get plenty of snaps as well.

Bottom line, this team is much better than the Huskers have shown in back-to-back home losses. Now it’s up to the players to believe that and just play like they’re capable of playing. Go Big Red!
