Nicola Martial excelled both in the jumps and in the classroom at Nebraska from 1993-96. A three-time national championship triple jumper from Las Vega, Nev., Martial also earned First-Team Academic All-America honors in 1997. Martial swept the indoor/outdoor triple jump crowns at the conference championships all four years at NU, while also adding All-America honors in the event both indoors and outdoors in 1994, 1995 and 1996. She won back-to-back outdoor national titles in the triple jump in 1994 and 1995, before capturing her first indoor national title in 1996. Martial graduated from Nebraska in 1996 with a degree in political science and then represented her home country of Guyana that summer at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga.
