Hooper Shoots Huskers Past Mavs

Lincoln - Freshman Jordan Hooper scored a career-high 25 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the field to lead the Nebraska women's basketball team to an 80-44 victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Hooper, a 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., connected on 6-of-7 shots from the field in each half, while adding six rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots against the Mavericks. The Huskers improved to 5-0 on the young season, stretching their regular-season winning streak to 36 games while extending their home streak to 24 straight victories.

Senior guard Dominique Kelley added 13 points and a career-high eight assists, while junior guard Kaitlyn Burke pitched in 10 points, three assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Lindsey Moore added eight points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals, while senior center Catheryn Redmon contributed six points, seven rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

All 10 Huskers who competed in the game scored at least two points in a balanced scoring effort that saw Nebraska produce 80 or more points for the fourth time in five contests. NU hit 50 percent (33-66) of its shots from the field, including 7-of-18 three-pointers. The Huskers also hit 7-of-8 free throws.

Kellie McCann-Smith contributed a career-high six points off the bench, while senior center Jessica Periago produced career bests with seven rebounds and four steals, while adding three points.

Paige Frauendorfer led UNO with 12 points, as the NCAA Division II Mavs hit just 18-of-53 (34 percent) shots from the field. NU did connect on 6-of-16 three-pointers and 2-of-3 free throws. NU outrebounded UNO 43-26, and produced a plus-eight turnover margin (27-19) against the Mavs.

Hooper scored NU's first eight points of the game to help shoot the Huskers to a 27-7 lead. Nebraska carried a 39-23 lead at the half, then opened the second half with a 13-0 run to take a 29-point lead with 16:30 left in the game. NU's biggest lead in the game was 38 points against the Mavs, who last played Nebraska in the regular season in 1986 - a game UNO won 76-74.

Nebraska returns home to battle unbeaten UNLV on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
