Red-White Spring Game
Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)

Rex Burkhead, I-Back
On how it felt to get out and get a good workout today
"It felt great. You get into a game-like situation against the guys you go with every day in practice, and you get a sense of a game-like mentality. It was good to get out and play a real game. It was great having the fans out and everything."
On the difference between scrimmages and diversity of the spring game
"We were really basic today and didn't get very deep into the playbook on either side of the ball. Execution was the big thing and I thought we did a great job."
On how to approach carrying the load this fall
"I've got a lot of younger guys that are new at the position. A lot of times in the meeting room I'm having to teach people what to do on the field. I just pass along what I have learned previous years from Roy (Helu) and Dontrayevous (Robinson). I think it has helped out my game."
On Jamal Turner
"He is just scratching the surface. We got a little preview of him and he is a playmaker. You can line him up anywhere. He is a very hard worker and has a great knack for the game. He will be a playmaker for four years."
Quarterback Taylor Martinez
On what he wanted to accomplish in the Red-White Game
"I just wanted to get timing with our receivers, because the main receivers were mainly on the white team, I would say. And I wanted to get time with Cole Pensick as center."
On what he thinks of the younger guys' performances
"Jamal Turner is electrifying and did a great job. And Kenny Bell, when he got the ball, made some good moves."
On what he needs to do before the fall
"I just need to keep learning the offense. Today was pretty simple and basic, so I just need to keep learning it."
On if he is comfortable under center, as opposed to in shotgun, like last year
"I'm comfortable either in gun or under center."
On his development as a quarterback
"In this offense, we need to learn a lot more stuff than last year. So I've been developing in everything."
On his health
"Right now I'm 100 percent. Today they just limited me just because on cuts, I can feel it. And they need me to be 100 percent in the fall."
On the performances quarterbacks Brion Carnes and Ron Kellogg III
"They did excellent. Carnes looked pretty good and Kellogg looked good, too."
On the changes in the offense
"The offense has changed a lot from last year. Since it changed, I'm still trying to get used to it, like other quarterbacks, offensive linemen and receivers. Once I get it down, it will be easy."
On the running back situation
"Rex (Burkhead), Austin Jones and Collins Okafor are what it is right now as far as I know."
Safety Austin Cassidy
On big plays from Kenny Bell, Jamal Turner and other young players
"We see that kind of stuff all the time. We didn't do any trick plays, it was pretty basic. You just saw some playmakers that can do that stuff. They do that in practice, they did it in the spring game and they will be doing it in the games for us next year, so it's pretty exciting."
On how much different this year's offense is from last year's
"It's hard for me to tell, being a defensive player, but just the way they are attacking in practice and drills is encouraging as a defensive player."
On where the team is
"You'll have to keep those evaluations to the coaches, but I just know that everyone is excited. I'm glad we have these 15 practices under our belt. I think we got better as a team. We have some new coaches, so it was nice to mesh with them."
On if any of the new players in the secondary impressed him today
"I didn't need to see the spring game to be impressed by those guys. The way they are in practice, the way they want to learn, the way they are in the meeting room has been impressive all spring. They are going to be good players for us next year and down the road."
