Griesch's The Word - Europe Blog #3
I am really excited about the Nebraska women's basketball team's upcoming Scandinavian excursion, and I'm not even making the trip.
I've had dozens of people ask me the past few months if I would be joining the team in Europe. Nope, I'm staying here in the Midwest to watch my three kids participate in my brother-in-law's wedding this weekend.
I've known my brother-in-law for close to 30 years - since we were kids growing up in Wayne, Neb. I'm pretty excited for him. I'm also excited to see my two sons dressed in little suits as ring bearers, while my daughter makes her first wedding appearance as a flower girl.
While I won't be making this trip to Scandinavia, I can at least draw from my own experience of traveling to Denmark and Sweden about a decade ago with my wife. We spent a good amount of time in Copenhagen, and we loved the city. We experienced Tivoli - Europe's oldest amusement park - and enjoyed the walking streets and shops around Copenhagen's town square.
Although I won't be on the trip, I'll be helping all of the players give you a taste of their experiences through Huskers.com, while coordinating coverage of the games as well.
Today, many of our players and Coach Yori spoke with the media about the trip. We also took photos as a team. Seeing our players in their actual Nebraska uniforms, rather than just practice gear, makes the season seem a lot closer.
The players had a lot of fun with the photos today. No problem getting any smiles, that's for sure. Right now, it looks like team chemistry has the potential to be a real strength.
