Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska junior Stefanie Weinstein has captured the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award for Feb. 7, the conference announced on Tuesday. Weinstein is the second Husker to capture the award in 2011-12, following teammate Janine Weinreich's honor in September.
Weinstein is off to an outstanding start in 2012, posting an 8-0 overall record for the Huskers. She is ranked No. 100 nationally in singles play and has compiled a 4-0 record so far this season on the singles court while beating three out of four opponents in straight sets.
On the doubles court, Weinstein and partner Madeleine Geibert are currently ranked No. 53 nationally and are 3-0 against ranked opponents this season, defeating the No. 6, No. 44 and No. 57 nationally ranked doubles teams.
Weinstein and the No. 29 Huskers will return to action this weekend at the Nebraska Tennis Center, hosting their second consecutive doubleheader on Saturday. NU will face Air Force at 9:30 a.m. before taking on Northern Iowa at 2 p.m.
