After the match, assistant coach Joreg Barthel was glad the Huskers were able to come away with the victory.
"We're glad to have won that match," Barthel said. "Denver is a good, dangerous, well coached team. We stressed that to the guys all week. I don't think we played our best tennis today, but our toughness shows in tight situations like tonight."
Nebraska started out the match winning the doubles point.
Court No. 1 featured two ranked doubles teams, but it was NU's duo of No. 7 Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lidheim that came away with the victory when they downed Denver's No. 39 Enej Bonin and Jens Vorkefeld, 8-3. The Huskers second doubles victory came on court No. 2 when the team of Andre Stenger and Robert Schluze downed DU's Yannick Weihs and Othar Kordsachia, 8-3.
Playing at the No. 1 spot of the Huskers lineup was No. 41 Christopher Aumueller, who was victorious when he defeated Denver's Bonin, 0-6, 6-1, 6-0. Benedikt Lindheim improved his record to 4-0 on the season when he downed DU's Vorkefeld, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, to clinch the fourth and match deciding point for the Huskers. Lindheim was playing at the No. 2 spot in the Huskers lineup.
On court No. 3 Denver's Weihs downed NU's Stenger, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6. Also victorious for the Pioneers on court No. 4 was Fabio Biasion who defeated Nebraska's Schulze, 6-1, 6-1. Nebraska's Eric Sock downed Denver's Alex Clinkenbeard in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Sock was playing at the No. 5 spot in the Huskers lineup. Denver's Max Krammer downed NU's Tom Blackwell, 6-2, 6-4, on court No. 6.
"Today was good," Barthel said when asked about singles play. "We didn't play great, but I liked our leadership on courts one and two. I was also glad to see that Eric Sock played well. His win set the tone for our comeback."
Nebraska will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 12, with two matches. The first match is against in-state rival Creighton and will begin at 10 a.m. The second match of the afternoon is against East Tennessee State. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
