Huskers Extend Winning Streak
The No. 22 ranked doubles pair of Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein remain undefeated.

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 27 Nebraska women's tennis team (8-1), extended their win streak to seven consecutive matches with a 6-1 victory over the Wichita State Shockers (4-3) on Friday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers swept through doubles play before winning five of six singles matches en route to their eighth victory this season.

The Huskers and the Shockers took to the courts for doubles play on Friday afternoon, where Mary Weatherholt and Patricia Veresova (NU) captured Nebraska's first win, an 8-3 win over Carla Venticinque and Lutfiana Budiharto (WSU) in No. 2 doubles.

NU secured the doubles point for the match courtesy of the No. 22 ranked doubles pair of Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein (NU). Geibert and Weinstein downed Wichita State's top duo of Lucia Kovalova and Veronika Blaskova (WSU), 8-3 on the No. 1 doubles court. Jennifer Holmberg and Janine Weinreich (NU) wrapped up the doubles sweep for Nebraska with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 position over Montse Blasco Fernandez and Delia Damaschin (WSU).

The Huskers and Shockers moved into singles play, where Geibert jumped out early to give the Huskers a 2-0 lead on the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Blaskova on the No. 3 singles court. Weinstein picked up the third point for the Big Red, a 6-1, 6-2 win over Wichita State's Kovalova in No. 4 singles.

Nebraska clinched the match victory on the No. 2 singles court, where Veresova topped the Shockers' Damaschin, 6-1, 6-3. Wichita State picked up their only point of the evening on the No. 1 singles court, where the Shockers' Budiharto edged No. 57 Weatherholt, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).

The Huskers' Zeppernick wrapped up NU's fifth win on the day, notching a 6-3, 7-5 victory in No. 6 singles over Venticinque. Weinreich downed Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul (WSU) to conclude the match, gritting out a 6-3, 7-5 victory at the No. 5 position.

Nebraska will have a day off before facing Colorado State on Sunday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start with live stats available at Huskers.com.
