Huskers Prepare for Midweek Dual

By NU Athletic Communications

The No. 34 Nebraska women's tennis team (9-1) will host Kansas State (4-5) on Wednesday in a midweek dual at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The dual will kick off a busy week for NU, as the Huskers will play host to three duals over the course over five days. Nebraska is fresh off a pair of wins last weekend in which they stormed past the Wichita State Shockers by a score of 6-1 on Friday before sweeping the Colorado State Rams 7-0 Sunday morning.

The Huskers continued their trend of strong doubles play over the weekend, winning all three doubles matches in both duals. NU is now 29-1 this spring in doubles play and has swept all three doubles matches in a total of nine duals. Nebraska is paced in doubles play by the No. 23 ranked duo of Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein, who hold a perfect 10-0 record this spring.

The Wildcats have been ranked as high as No. 43 this season and hold a 4-5 record that includes wins over Troy, UNC-Wilmington, UT-Arlington and Arkansas-Little Rock. Nebraska and K-State have seen a common opponent in Arkansas, who the Huskers defeated in January by a score of 5-2. KSU fell to Arkansas in Fayetteville on Feb. 5, 2-5.

Kansas State is led on the court by sophomore Petra Niedermayerova. Niedermayerova is currently ranked No. 24 nationally in singles play, holding a 14-7 record overall. Kansas State has also relied on contributions from junior Karla Bonacic, who is ranked No. 84 nationally in singles with a 13-6 record overall.

Nebraska last faced Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. on April 1, 2011. The Huskers came away with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Wildcats that was clinched by Geibert's 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Niedermayerova in No. 1 singles.

The Huskers will remain in Lincoln this weekend, hosting the Saint Louis Billikens and the Colorado Buffaloes. Nebraska and Saint Louis will square off on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska Tennis Center. NU will wrap up the weekend against Colorado on Sunday at noon.
