Nebraska Sweeps Saint Louis

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 36 Nebraska women's tennis team downed the Saint Louis Billikens 7-0 on Friday night. Nebraska's (11-1) sweep of Saint Louis (4-4) marked NU's second this season, while their sweep of doubles play marked the 11th time this season the Huskers have won all three singles matches in a dual.

The Huskers and Billikens started the evening on the doubles courts, where Mary Weatherholt and Patricia Veresova (NU) jumped out to a quick 8-1 win over St. Louis's Jen Nalepa and Maria Toro Moreno (SLU) in No. 1 doubles. Capturing the doubles point for the Huskers was Janine Weinreich and Stefanie Weinstein's (NU) 8-1 victory over Stephanie Hollis and Mia Elmore (SLU) at the No. 2 position.

Izabella Zigerska and Maike Zeppernick (NU) wrapped up Nebraska's doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Brooke Urzendowski and Madeline Jolley (SLU). Following doubles play, the Huskers had a 1-0 lead as the match moved into singles action.

The Huskers and Billikens moved to the singles courts after a short break, and Nebraska wasted no time in continuing their sweep. Maike Zeppernick posted the second point for the Huskers with a 6-0, 6-0 match against Saint Louis' Madeline Jolly in No. 6 singles.

Veresova moved the Huskers one point closer to clinching the match win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Saint Louis' Stephanie Hollis. Weatherholt (NU) secured the win by capturing the fourth victory in a straight-set win in No. 1 singles. Weatherholt posted a final score of 6-1, 6-2 against Jen Nalepa.

Although the match was already won, the Huskers were not done yet. Stefanie Weinstein added to the Nebraska lead with a win over St. Louis's Mia Elmore 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 3 singles court. Also picking up a point was Nebraska's Janine Weinreich on the No. 4 singles court with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nebraska native Brook Urzendowski.

Izabella Zigerska (NU) completed the sweep for the Huskers on the No. 5 singles court. Zgierska posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over St. Louis's Maria Toro Moreno, finalizing the tally at 7-0 in favor of the Big Red.
