Cernjul Represents Huskers in NCAA High Jump Competition
Des Moines, Iowa- The Nebraska track and field team returned to the track on Friday for day three of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium. After two days of competition, the Huskers have tallied one NCAA Champion and four first-team All-America honors.
2012 Big Ten Outdoor High Jump Champion Marusa Cernjul continued the competition for the Huskers as she represented Nebraska in the high jump. Cernjul, who was competing in her first NCAA Championships, closed an impressive freshman campaign as an NCAA qualifier.
Cernjul started the competition clearing 5-7 (1.70) on her first attempt. She moved on as the bar was raised to 5-8 3/4 (1.75) and cleared it again on her first attempt at that height. Cernjul took to the height of 5-10 1/2 (1.79) to continue the high jump competition. After three attempts she was unable to advance to the next height of 6-0 (1.83) and finished her NCAA experience with a mark of 5-8 3/4 (1.75) to tie for 17th.
The Huskers will close the NCAA Championships on the final day of competition tomorrow at Drake Stadium. Two-time All-American Luke Pinkelman will compete in the men's shot put, while four-time All-American Mara Griva will join Big Ten Outdoor Champion Anna Weigandt in the women's triple jump. Both events are slated for 10 a.m.
