Maric Helps Australia to Win over Great Britain

London - Former Husker Aleks Maric returned to the starting lineup on Saturday, helping Australia to a crucial victory over Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics.

Maric, a two-time All-Big 12 performer for the Huskers, had two points and three rebounds in 11 minutes of work, as Australia picked up a 106-75 win.

Australia, which improved to 2-2 in Preliminary Round Group B, trailed 46-36 at the break before outscoring the host nation, 70-29, in the second half. Australia broke open the game in the fourth quarter, using a 40-15 win to extend a six-point lead.

With the win, Australia can finish no worse than fourth in the group and would advance to the quarterfinals, most likely against the winner of Preliminary Round Group B, on Wednesday.

Maric has started two of the last three games for Australia, which has won two straight since losses to Spain and Brazil to open tournament play.

Australia wraps up group play against Russia Monday at 3 a.m. Central. The game will be shown on NBCOlympics.com and on DirecTV Ch. 752.

For Nigeria, Ade Dagunduro missed his second straight game with a knee injury, and now faces a must-win game Monday against France at 8:30 a.m. The game will be also shown on NBCOlympics.com and on DirecTV Ch. 752.
