Lincoln,
Neb.- The Nebraska football team practiced for over two hours on
Wednesday at the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Fields in preparation for
Saturday's game against Idaho State. Linebackers Coach Ross Els spoke to the
media after practice about how the Huskers need their inexperienced linebackers
to step up for the rest of the season with the loss of Zaire Anderson.
“With Zaire’s
injury, a few guys will play.” Els said, “Whaley will play, Santos will play, and
Corey Cooper will be in that position when they start to spread us out. There
is a lot of different guys that need to produce. Fortunately we have enough
depth there we will be fine.”
Even though
NU will be playing a Football Championship Subdivision (Formally 1-AA) Els
thinks the Huskers will have their work cut out for them with the passing
attack the Bengals use.
“Idaho State
throws the ball extremely well. They have one receiver that is leading the
country in receptions.” Els said, “They are going to throw the heck out of the
ball, so we need to play good tight coverage.”
